From Who Moved My Cheese, by Dr. Spencer Johnson

Don’t be afraid of change.  Enjoy life’s adventures.

Your “cheese” or success in life may be paralyzing you.   Acting without thinking too much can save time and energy.   Don’t waste time with anger or frustration.

There are 4 mice in a maze trying to find their cheese.    Hem and Haw analyzed every detail and tried to memorize everything.   They found frustration.   Because of the work they had to put in they became dependent upon the cheese.   They were fixated on the work it took to get there and became dependent upon the cheese as justification of their existence.

The other 2, Sniff and Scurry, quickly moved on and on and found many deposits of cheese.   Creating a bountiful life.

Change always happens.   Be ready for changes.  Sometimes the things we believe about ourselves make it hard to accept change.

If you think you deserve something, change is “unfair.”   You won’t accept the reality of change.   Adapt to change, unlike Hem & Haw.  What works today might now work tomorrow.

Fear is what makes accepting change more difficult.  Visualizing your goals helps you push through change.  If you odn’t venture out of your comfort zone, things won’t get better.   If you feel loss, must find something new.   Dare to move in a new direction and things will get better.

If you do it once, it will make it easier next time.  The fear in your mind is often much worse than the change.

THERE IS ALWAYS NEW CHEESE TO BE FOUND

“Sniffs” find new angels and search the marketplace.  “Scurries” get things done.  “Hems” feel unsafe in times of change.  Can cause problems if they don’t find the courage to become “Haws” – who find ways to use things to their advantage.
